PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To manage all resources in order to achieve production targets with optimized productivity.
REPORTING TO: Factory Manager

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Manufacturing operations management:
• Work closely with the planning department to optimize and finalize production schedules based on the sales plan and MPS.
• Manage and co-ordinate resources to meet all production deadlines.
• Ensure that job structures and manufacturing documentation are correct and in place.

2. Financial Management:
• Prepare and control a budget for all financial expenses related to production and plant activities.
• Manage the plant activities with the goal of optimizing output, performance and maintenance with the least financial impact.
• Participate in cost reduction programs without forfeiting performance, improvements or long term maintenance.

3. Leadership / people management:
• Plan, schedule and manage human resources in order to achieve optimum labour and equipment utilization.
• Manage human resources to ensure disciplined behaviour resulting in safe work conditions and quality work/products.
• Implement and maintain structured communication in the department to ensure an informed labour force with regards to all product, process and company related developments.
• Implement and maintain a system of continuous performance management and review. This includes setting of goals, rewarding of superior performance and dealing with under performance.

4. SHE and Quality Management:
• Actively participate in the SHE and Quality programs, including continuous improvement.
• Ensure that all SHE and Quality standards and expectations are well communicated and understood by all and that all policies, procedures, processes and rules are followed to ensure conformance.
• Ensure that all statutory appointments are up to date and incumbents trained.

5. Technical & Maintenance Liaison :
• Liaises with internal clients/customers and project teams, ensuring successful implementation of projects, trials, product development, equipment modifications, maintenance systems and planning.
• Resolve plant/s technical problems to ensure optimal service delivery in terms of Safety / Costs / Quality and World-Class competitiveness.

POST REQUIREMENTS
o A Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / B.Sc Degree or relevant B. Tech qualification.
o Experience in explosives manufacturing.
o Experience in people management and demonstrated leadership abilities within manufacturing.
o Knowledge of SHE and Quality Management systems.
o Computer literate with a good understanding of Management Information and Operating systems.
o Analytical thinking with good problem solving abilities and judgment.
o Positive attitude and proven adaptability to work under pressure.
o Superior planning & organizing skills.
o Good understanding of financial statements and the budget process
